B Payden Photography 365 - Day 2: Yorktown National Cemetery 2-12-2010

This image is of the Yorktown National Cemetery. The site was selected in 1866 as a convenient location to several Civil War Battle from the Peninsular Campaign. Of the total of 2,204 burials in the cemetery, there are 1,596 marked graves. 747 are of known persons and 1,436 unknown. Those buried here were for the most part Union Army soldiers, although 10 Confederate soldiers and three wives are also interred here. The Cemetery sits in the middle of the Yorktown Battlefield and is well worth a contemplative visit to pay our respects to those who have gave the last full measure for our country.

This image is of a field gun of the Grand French Battery on the First Allied Siege Line at the Yorktown Battlefield. In the distance can be seen a building that is part of the Yorktown National Cemetery.

This image is the first in our new photo project "B Payden Photography 365" Every day for the next year I will be posting an image that I have shot and sharing it with our fans and clients both here on our blog and on our facebook business page. I'm very excited about this project both to stretch my creativity but also to give all our fans a look inside our business and our artwork. All comments and suggestions are welcome and I look forward to sharing this next year in images with you!
